Established on 30 June 2023, the Public Interest Consortium (PIC) ‘Rashi – Troyes and Aube in the Grand Est region’ aims to promote the legacy of Rashi of Troyes and his school of thought, the Tossafists, whose influence helped shape a European identity as far back as the Middle Ages.
Supported by the French State, the Grand Est Regional Council, the Aube Departmental Council, the City of Troyes and the Central Consistory of France, this project showcases, from Troyes and the Aube, an exceptional history that lies at the heart of Europe’s cultural and intellectual heritage.
‘Rashi of Troyes, European Place of Remembrance’ highlights a legacy founded on values that still resonate today: the transmission of knowledge, freedom of expression, respect for diverse interpretations and a commitment to gender equality.
In recognition of its historical significance and its importance for European integration, ‘Rashi of Troyes, European Place of Remembrance’ was awarded the European Heritage Label in the 2025 selection round.
