Rashi European University and Cultural Institute

A place of teaching, research and culture centred on Rashi and monotheistic religions, the Rashi European University and Cultural Institute, founded in 1989, offers courses in languages (biblical and modern Hebrew, Arabic, Latin), history of religions, philosophy and political science, open to all, with no academic prerequisites. It also offers a permanent exhibition on ‘Rashi and Medieval Judaism’ and a library of Hebrew, literary, philosophical and historical studies. Also worth discovering is its regular cultural programme: exhibitions, conferences, shows, readings and concerts.

‘Maison Rachi‘

A Jewish place of worship and culture, magnificently restored in 2016, the ‘Maison Rachi‘ offers a bold, innovative museographic journey to discover Rashi, his history and his work thanks to an innovative immersive and digital scenography. In particular, you will discover the oratory and the Beth Hamidrash (school), poetically reconstructed to evoke the life of Rashi in the 11th century.

‘Rashi Trail‘ in Dampierre, Ramerupt and Lhuître

Created in June 2022, the ‘Isaac de Dampierre’ mural highlights Dampierre’s medieval Jewish heritage by revealing the figure of Isaac de Dampierre, a key historical figure in the Jewish community from the time of the Counts of Champagne in the 12th century.

The mural ‘Rabbeinu Tam and Henry I the Liberal’, created in June 2023, highlights the medieval Jewish heritage of Ramerupt by revealing the figures of Jacob and Samuel, grandsons of Rashi, and their mother Yochebed, key historical figures in the Jewish community from the time of the Counts of Champagne in the 12th century, alongside Henry I the Liberal, Count of Champagne.

The mural ‘Rashi, his disciples and his daughters’, completed in September 2023, highlights the medieval Jewish heritage of Lhuître, where a Jewish community was established in the Middle Ages, at the time of the Counts of Champagne.

In the footsteps of the Jewish community of Vitry-le-François

This 1950s synagogue was closed in 2007 due to a lack of worshippers. Now desanctified, it belongs to the town of Vitry-le-François, which would like to give it a new use.
