Innovation in the Middle Ages with Rashi

On October 4 et 5, as part of the French and European events Biblis en folie and European Days of Jewish Culture, PIC Rashi offered a series of workshops on the theme of innovation in the Middle Ages, through the figure of Rashi.

An 11th-century scholar, Rashi made his mark on the history of exegesis with his innovative method of transmitting knowledge based on literal commentary. He proposed a direct approach aimed at systematically guiding students in their understanding of texts. By anticipating readers’ questions and involving them in the construction of reasoning and interpretations, he developed a remarkable pedagogical approach. Even today, his contribution and the values he embodied continue to be recognised throughout the world.

The public, both children and adults, were able to discover this legacy through a series of fun and educational activities from the PIC’s educational kit:

  • Introduction to Hebrew
  • Word games
  • Commented readings
  • Exploration of Hebrew manuscripts

Thank you to the Jacques Chirac Media Library in Troyes Champagne Métropole for this collaboration.
